Data Recovery and Digital Storage Glossary
- NAS
Network Attached Storage. Specialized storage devices built to quickly add large amounts of storage to a network without requiring complex setup time. Typically consists of a desktop or rack-mounted server with one or more, usually several, disk drives (commonly configured in a RAID array for extra data reliability) and a basic operating system & remote administration tool.
- NVRAM
Non-Volatile Random Access Memory. Similar to RAM (Random Access Memory), but is unique in that NVRAM will not lose data when power is switched off and therefore is less likely to cause data loss in a power outage or similar event. NVRAM is commonly used to store device settings, such as a computer's BIOS.
